Upgrade the guide rod and spring in the 10/22® bolt handle assembly
Includes guide rod
Interchangeable tuning springs: (white spring=standard, red spring =10% increase, no color=10% decrease)
Precision ground guide rod is made from hardened tool steel and held to 2/10,000" tolerance throughout its entire length. The rod is nitride treated which gives its surface a 70C rockwell (harder than a file) surface hardness. Guaranteed the smoothest and slickest guide rod in the industry. The three springs come in varying tensions for the ultimate modification. With this kit, KIDD provides a standard spring tension then includes, a 10% lighter and 10% heavier spring for tuning your cycling. We recommend that the KIDD Bolt Handle also be purchased with this kit in lieu of trying to cut the factory bolt assembly.
Packaging includes:
guide rod
three tuning springs

Fixed the issue!
I bought an old Ruger 10/22 a couple years ago, I think it was built in 1994. It had extraction issues every several rounds and I could never make it through a full 25 round mag without a malfunction(s). 10 round mags faired better but still had extraction issues. Bought a new extractor, still issues. Tried different magazines, still had issues. Went to the forums and some of the recommendations were to get a new recoil spring. The Kidd spring kit was recommended by some forum members so I decided, what the heck, I'll give it a try. I got the kit and replaced the guide rod and used the standard spring (white) and it worked like a charm. Made it through two, 25 round mags and 4, ten round mags without a single malfunction. Just a note, if you want to use the Ruger charging handle, you will have to cut the guide rod to remove the OEM handle. I decided to go this route to keep the rifle stock looking however if you want to avoid that, just buy one of the charging handles along with your kit on this site.

Cycles flawlessly
I’ve done some work on my 22 and decided to swap out bolts to the kidd bolt. I had to do a little modification to the original receiver to get the bolt to fit in. Had to file the lip on the inside that keeps the bolt in place when the recoil pin is in, so it could clear when cleaning. After changing out the bold I had quite a few issues with jams. The gun would jam several times on a magazine. I came to realize that the bolt is heavier than stock bolt. I also realized that the original guide rod would bind and flex some when shooting. I decided to purchase the guide rod assembly with black ring charging handle. The guide rod is very sturdy with no flex and glass smooth. This completely fixed my failure to feed issue. I had one failure to feed in 200+ rounds due to the round catching the edge of the barrel and getting slightly bent at the nose. Not the fault of the bolt or guide rod. Cheap bulk golden bullet ammo. If your going to change your bolt, do yourself a favor and complete the job with the guide rod assembly. You won’t be sorry. I’m currently using the standard power spring with no issues.

The fix
I installed a left side charging handle on my 22 and I couldn't make it work. I was ready to send it back and get a refund but then decided to give the Kidd guide rod and spring kit a try it solved my issue. The stock guide rod was pitted and very uneven the Kidd rod is like glass. I can now charge or clear jambs from the left side almost as easy as from the left side. A+++

great for shooting suppressed
The light spring in this kit is ideal for shooting suppressed with subsonic loads. My rifle cycles them fine now that I have the "10% less" spring installed. Highly recommended.

The KIDD Guide rod really smoothed out the action. The ability to tune your action to your ammo is very nice also.Although I leave the subsonic spring in all the time. If I were to shoot CCI Stingers I might go up to the 10% extra power spring.
